welcome

g̱ilakas'la

Hi, and thank you for being here.

Brushed by Cedar Counselling is a space I’ve created from the heart - shaped by my lived experiences, my training, and my deep respect for the land and the people I work with. Rooted in the sacredness of land, story, and relationship, I offer a space of healing that honours the wisdom and the strength of lived experience. Located on the unceded traditional territories of the LiǧʷiÅ‚daxÊ· people, my practice is grounded in decolonizing and healing-centered values, with a strong commitment to social justice, cultural awareness, and relational healing.

I carry a mixed ancestry that includes Coast Salish (Quw'utsun, Xwulqw'selu), Irish, Scottish, Russian Doukhobor, and English roots. These layers of identity, alongside the stories and teachings I’ve received over the years, guide how I show up in this work.

My approach to counselling is relational, respectful, and honest. I believe healing happens in connection - to self, to culture, to land, and to others. I don’t ask folks to do anything I wouldn’t be willing to do myself.

I hold a Bachelor and Master of Social Work (Indigenous Specialization) from the University of Victoria and am a Registered Social Worker in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers. I’ve worked in the helping profession since 2004, and in counselling since 2011 - across communities, systems, and stories that have deeply shaped my practice.

Being in nature reminds me of what it means to return to ourselves. That sense of rootedness is what I hope to offer in this work: a place where you can come as you are, be witnessed with care, and take the time you need to tend to your own healing.

At this time, I’m holding a waitlist. If you'd like to be added, feel free to reach out to me at brushedbycedar@gmail.com. I'd be honoured to connect with you when space opens up.

In warmth and respect,
Tasha Chamberlin

Professional Counselling Services

At Brushed by Cedar Counselling, I am committed to offering professional, confidential, and culturally responsive counselling services to adults, couples, and families. My practice is rooted in a bio-psycho-social-spiritual framework, emphasizing healing-centered engagement that addresses the multifaceted nature of human experiences. My practice is framed by self-agency, relational accountability, and collective healing.

My work centres on restoring connection - to self, culture, community, and the natural world. I hold deep respect for the adaptability carried by those who seek support, and I walk alongside each person with humility, accountability, and care.

Whether navigating relationships, grief, trauma, or women's health issues you are welcomed as you are.

Brushed by Cedar is more than a counselling space - it is an invitation to reclaim voice, dignity, and balance. Here, healing is understood as a natural and courageous response to relationships, systems and histories that have caused harm. Together, we tend to the roots.

  • Adjusting Therapeutic Modalities – Blending approaches based on your needs and comfort level.

  • Pacing Therapy Respectfully – Honouring your readiness for deep exploration while fostering a sense of safety and self-trust.

  • Integrating Cultural & Spiritual Perspectives – Honouring diverse identities, worldviews, and ancestral wisdom as integral to the healing process.

Healing is not an individual endeavor - it is relational, collective, and deeply connected to the systems we navigate. I strive to hold space for transformative healing, recognizing not only the wounds we carry but also the adaptability and strength we inherit. Together, we move toward a path of restoration, empowerment, and collective well-being.

Services

Areas of Focus

Relationships & Couples - In relationships - with partners, family, and community - are where we seek safety, belonging, and care. I work with individuals, couples, and families to explore the patterns that shape connection and disconnection, as relationships evolve over time.

Assisting partners in deepening connection, navigating major life events, and addressing relationship conflict. Relationship work extends beyond romantic partnerships and includes caregiving roles, healing intergenerational patterns, inner-child exploration, boundary setting, and cultivating self-worth, and self-trust.

Grief and Loss - Grief is not something to “get over” but something to be held with care. Whether grieving the loss of a loved one, a relationship, an identity, or a sense of belonging, I approach grief with a somatic and compassionate care lens. Loss is carried in the body, the nervous system, and in the ways we move through the world. Together, we create space to honour what has been lost, without rushing toward resolution, while making room for what comes next.

Trauma - Trauma is not just an individual experience, but a systemic issue influenced by colonialism, systemic violence, and intergenerational harm. Whether you are navigating developmental trauma, relational trauma, chronic distress, or the weight of inherited pain, our work together will centre relational healing, adaptability, resistance, and self-determination. I support individuals in processing trauma, oppression, and personal histories in a way that acknowledges both personal and collective healing.

Women’s Health – The emotional labor placed on women - whether through caregiving, reproductive health, or societal expectations - is not just a personal burden but a systemic one. Much of what women carry is unseen, dismissed, or normalized. Our work together is about naming these realities, challenging harmful narratives, and creating space for harmony, self-determination, and care that is sustainable and nourishing.

Healing is not about fixing what is broken - it is about reclaiming what has been taken, remembering what has always been within us, and reimagining new ways of being. If this resonates with you, I would be honoured to walk alongside you in this work.

My Approach

My therapeutic approach is integrative, recognizing that healing is deeply personal and shaped by culture, identity, and lived experience. I draw from various evidence-based and culturally attuned modalities, including:

  • Family Systems & Attachment Theory – Exploring relational patterns, attachment wounds, and intergenerational dynamics to promote healing and connection.

  • Compassionate Inquiry - Gently guiding to connect with the emotions and beliefs that have been suppressed or adapted in response to lack of safety, connection, or authenticity in childhood.

  • Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Schema Therapy & Lifespan Development – Supporting clients in understanding, processing, and expressing emotions in ways that promote growth and relational security, as well as identifying and transforming core beliefs rooted in early life experiences that impact present-day relationships and self-perception.

  • Response-Based Practice & Therapeutic Activism – Recognizing acts of resistance in the face of adversity and centering clients' agency in their healing process, as well as bringing together therapy and social justice, recognizing that healing it’s intimately connected to systems of power, oppression, culture, and collective liberation.

  • Mindfulness & Somatic Practices – Incorporating present-moment awareness, breathwork, movement, and nervous system regulation to cultivate embodied presence and healing.

I raise my hands in gratitude to the LiǧʷiÅ‚daxÊ· families of the Wei Wai Kum, We Wai Kai, and Kwiakah Nations for allowing us to live, learn, and work on this beautiful unceded land.

I am dedicated to ongoing learning, listening, and engaging in meaningful reconciliation that honours Indigenous sovereignty and self-determination. This acknowledgment is just one small step in a broader commitment to justice, truth-telling, and relationship-building.

With deep respect, I recognize the Ligʷiłdaxʷ Nations for their enduring care of these lands and waters. I remain committed to working in ways that respect, uplift, and centre Indigenous voices and knowledge.
